Coffee shoppers often compare the sticker price on Amazon — $12 vs $18 — and pick the cheaper bag. That shortcut fails when packages differ in size. A 12 oz bag at $12 is $1.00/oz. A 32 oz bag at $18 is about $0.56/oz.
Start with unit price, not package price
Unit price answers one question: what do you pay for the coffee you actually brew? For ground, whole bean, and instant, that is cents per ounce. For pods, that is cents per pod.
- Read the net weight (oz) or pod count on the listing.
- Divide package price by ounces or pods.
- Ignore multipack marketing language until you convert to a comparable unit.
Why Amazon coffee prices look confusing
